The Bayleaf Hotel rest in the historical ruins of Intramuros in Manila. The service it provides translate to the hospitality of the Filipino as a people and the security it shows will speak to foreigners and visitors how we keep our places safe. It is paramount thus that its security personnel is able to keep up with the demands and risk involved in their work. Teaching self defense and providing a mindset as to when and where it matters. This is service to our countrymen and a start to a journey towards making people aware that we have our own self defense system that addresses or seek to address the current needs of Filipinos in protecting themselves and their love ones using their present status or situation in life. To make self protection relevant by using a self defense system based on our cultural heritage and awareness of current situation in a local setting. Being in the now and being in a Filipino mindset of today. Thanks also to our AKS brothers from the Philippine Coast Guard Anti-Terrorist Unit who serve with humility and sincerity.

Giving back to those who have been loyal and honest in their duties - the Men who embody the Loyalty and Honesty of Dogs.. For every dog bite and bullying from dog owners the Valenzuela dog handlers unit continues to muster the inner dog in them and serve the people and protect the health of their pets as well by simply doing what they do best- catch and impound stray dogs. This simple yet risky task help to avoid rabies from spreading and harming both man and animal alike. To arm themselves with knowledge of self defense and protection against violence, the Abenir Kalis System imbibes them with a practical application of a mindset and a system of approach that relies on their experience and utilization of tools they have at hand. The AK system promotes to bring a self defense rooted in its Filipino Martial Heritage that innovates itself and adapt to the needs of each individual according to ones livelihood and normal lives. What better way to relay this idea into action than to share it to the Valenzuela Dog Catcher unit.

Giving back to our men in uniform. Abenir Kalis spearheads a drive to make self defense relevant once again thru an evolving adoption of a fighting system rooted in the Filipino Martial Arts and catering to the specific needs of a developing nation. What better way to serve our country and its people than to give back the knowledge of martial arts to the honorable men in uniform whose lives are on the line for the lives and liberties of its people . We start with the Philippine Coast Guard K9 training group. This Special Operations Group protects the entire archipelago from terrorist threats, bombs and narcotics to say a few. We start 2018 with a loud growl and a proud howl!

AKS joins a run for a cause

Abenir Kalis System starts the year 2018 with a run for a cause event that will benefit the fallen heroes and men who joined the Marawi siege last year. The honor and sacrifice given by 165 fallen troops and thousands of brave soldiers and police force to protect the liberty and peace of our country is immeasurable. Our 10k run and the funds we donated in joining the Candy Crush run is but a drop in the ocean of gratitude we owe these brave warriors. As practitioners and mentors of our warrior art we honor them with what little we can give. This is one of our many activities this year to make Filipino Martial arts relevant to society, attuned to the demands of the present and innovative to the expectations of the future. We have just concluded our very first Arnés Diablo seminar at the FMA center in Pasig. Jorge Talaya has presented the system very well and all the participants gained a lot of fresh insights on Instinctive knife defense approach. Everyone had a great time experiencing this martial art.

ABENIR KALIS AT SEAL BEACH CALIFORNIA SEMINAR

This event marked my first to travel in the US. I've just recently conducted a seminar in Malaysia when an invitation from David Jansson came up together with Gilles Blessed who have been coming here for quite some time to train with us here in the Philippines decided to fly me to Seal Beach Calif. We started the seminar with an introduction to blade training which eventually progressed to knife defense which was concluded by an hour of intense knife against knife and knife against empty hand sparring session. Everyone got the chance to cross hands with training blades which was an eye opening experience for each participant.  It was also a great opportunity for me to meet up with my brothers sir Sam Halim who took the time to show me around Universal studios just to make me feel welcomed and to meet also with sir Andy who was very kind and who was responsible for producing my videos together with his business partner Mr. Martin under Cranes Production. It was also an honor to meet Sifu Gary Lam at his humble Wing Tsun training center. It was a humbling experience as well to do be asked by sifu for a short knife defense demo in front of his students.  It was also an honor to meet up with  sir Val Mijailovic from Masters Magazine who conducted a wonderful  interview featuring our system for their upcoming Master's magazine issue. It was also great to see my fellow brothers in AK,  Japs , Nero and Joseph for a wonderful training session together. Thanks also to my fellow Bosconians who went time off from there busy schedules to welcome me as well.

Picture taken after a successful 3 day seminar hosted by Sensei Tony Yap' s Aikido school. He and his team invited me to conduct an Abenir Kalis blade training seminar on the second and third day after Sensei Tony 's self-defense seminar which was held on the first day. It was one of the best seminars I have ever conducted. It was well prepared by Sensei and his students. It was their great generosity, kindness and humbleness which impressed me the most. People who are already well accomplished as martial artists yet always kept their minds open and were ready to empty their cup in order to recieve. More stories and pictures about this soon.

KAPWA TAO ( Fellow man ): CORE VALUE OF A KALISTA ( Swordsman ) - Filipino Martial Arts is a fighting art that was handed to us by our great ancestors who developed their skills in the use of swords, knives, sticks, and various weapons for the purpose of defending others and for protecting ones self. The term "KAPWA TAO" in Filipino is the notion of a "Shared Self"  which is extending ones self to include others as well. This is the core of Filipino personhood. The learning of a fighting art always has to do with self protection that naturally includes others be it his or her own family, friends and their families and even strangers who are in need of it as well. This also means giving ones self in service to his/her Motherland.  The values underneath "KAPWA TAO" or shared self are the words "BAHALA NA" (determination), PAKIKIBAKA (resistance), and "LAKAS NG LOOB" (guts). It also extends to societal values such as "KARANGALAN" (dignity), "KATARUNGAN" (justice) and "KALAYAAN" (freedom)These values are inculcated in the minds, hearts and souls of every Eskrimador.  Therefore a true Kalista, Arnisador or Eskrimador is not just a fighter.  These values aside from the physical training should lead to the development of  a Kalista's totality as a "Mandirigma", "BAGANI" or a Noble warrior.

Ploughshares seminar 2015 and weapons training at Boracay 2018

The recently concluded Filipino Martial Arts event "Ploughshares 2" March 12, 2015 held at the FMA Center in Pasig courtesy of Guro Manny. A big thank you to all the participants who supported this event. We also wish to thank the representatives from UNICEF for sharing with us their mission and vision to help those are in need and for giving us a token of appreciation. Special thanks also goes to AJ Quidlat for warming up everybody in preparation for the day's activities and for serving as our emcee.
